Company history

The joint stock company Dřevostroj, a.s. is a company with a long tradition. Its history dates back to 1951 when a plant specialising in repairs of agricultural machines, which was a part of Bublík nationalised company in Čkyně, was incorporated into the state company called Šumavské Pily, which had its office in Písek. In 1955-1981 the plant had the status of an engineering and repairing plant and it was a part of Jihočeské Dřevařské Závody n.p. České Buddějovice.

A significant milestone in the history of the company was the year 1982 when Dřevostroj Čkyně, a national enterprise, was established. Later on it was transformed into a state company. Ownership rights were stabilised in 1997 when Lesní Společnost Ledeč nad Sázavou, a.s. became the majority shareholder.

The company specialised in general overhauls of steam engines and frame saws in its first years. At the beginning of the 1960s the company started shifting its activities from repairs of saw-mill lines to modernisation of timbering plants. At first individual machines were supplied and later on the company supplied engineering and technological lines including electric wiring, and later on also electronics. Up until the 1990s a significant part of the production programme included the production and repair of high-lift trucks.
